WOW!  What a difference a day makes.  We all tried our very BEST with new Math and when we had centers, we shared, we used inside voices and we listened to Mrs. Sloane the FIRST time!

Remember...tomorrow is Library Day.

What Happened???

Yikes...we had a rough day!  Many of us forgot our manners and how to behave in the classroom.

We had a talk to remember that our job in Kindergarten is to listen to Mrs. Sloane, to try our best, to share and NO yelling.

We also learned that each day is a NEW day and tomorrow we can be better!!

Loose Teeth

We are noticing some BIG changes amongst our friends.  Some of our friends have LOST their first tooth and some have a wiggly tooth!

Today we read Andrew's Loose Tooth and Franklin and the Tooth Fairy to understand that we all will loose our FIRST tooth at a different time and it is OKAY if you don't have any wiggly teeth!

We learned all about the letter Bb today.  We learned that we have to push our lips together to make the Bb sound.  Thank

You for bringing in your Bb sharing!

We were AMAZING!

WOW...a HUGE thank you to the families who came and watched us perform!
Mrs. Sloane was SO proud of us.

On Monday, we will be learning about the letter Bb.
Students are welcome to bring a small toy to share that represents the letter Bb

Friday ASSEMBLY and February!

Just a reminder...this Friday at 9:30 the PM Kinders will perform their I am Special assembly.
They will be performing 2 songs, 1 poem and a chant.

Looking forward to February...

There is NO SCHOOL February 13th, 14th and 17th for Teacher's Convention and Family Day!

We will exchange Valentine Cards on Wednesday, February 12th.

Students do not have to make cards for their classmates, but if they do, they MUST make one for everybody in the class!  If a student chooses not to make cards...they still will receive some from their classmates:)   Please remember, there can be no candy attached to the Valentine Card.

Valentine Cards are a great opportunity for students to practice writing their name.  Students do not need to write WHO the card is for...leaving it blank is okay and easier for them to put in their friends Valentine Bags, but if they wish, here is a list of our classmates;

  • Clara
  • Parees
  • Ethan
  • Aditi
  • Adian G
  • Everest
  • Aksel

Koala Bears

The CHS “Coventry Cares Club” is asking students and families to support our latest initiative “Koalas & Kangas” by bringing a loonie or a toonie to school between
January 20th and March 19th, 2020.

Today we started learning about Koalas in Australia.
We learned that Koalas Bears;

  • are not actually bears
  • they are marsupials (a mammal that carries their young in a pouch on the mother's belly)
  • they sleep 18 hours a day
  • they spend MOST of their day in trees and
  • they eat eucalyptus
Today we did a guided drawing of a Koala

Koalas & Kangas

The CHS “Coventry Cares Club” is asking students and families to support our latest initiative “Koalas & Kangas” by bringing a loonie or a toonie to school between January 20th and March 19th, 2020.

Students thought this would be a good way to be global citizens and make a difference by helping and supporting animals that have been affected by the current Australian wildfires.

With your help we hope to send a really BIG cheque to one of the charities currently rescuing and nursing injured koalas and kangaroos. The BEST part of this project is that Mrs. Verstraete’s daughter, Miss V., is currently teaching in Brisbane, AU, and can personally deliver our money to the charity of our choice.  She will also send us back some pictures of our money in action!

Thanks in advance for your help and support of “Koalas & Kangas”!

Report Cards and Penguins

Tomorrow students will be bring their FIRST Report Card home in their Blue Folder.
If your child does not come to school; they will get it on Monday!

Today we focused on animals who LIKE this cold weather!

Our work was inspired by the Calgary Zoo posting...
can you believe Calgary was colder than the Antartica?

We read a non-fiction book about penguins and
then we did a guided drawing lesson on drawing a cartoon penguin!

COLD Weather

BRRRR...it is COLD!  Please remember that on these cold days, that even though we are NOT going outside, students need to bring all their gear just in case we need to evacuate the building and walk to our emergency site, which is St. Clare School.

We will be at the doors welcoming students until 1:00, but if you come after 1:00, please go to the office as teachers need to be in their classrooms with students and can't leave the class to open the doors.  Thank You for understanding!

Pp

At CHS we use a literacy program called Lively Letters.  Lively Letters is a multi-sensory reading program that turns plain, abstract letters and sounds into lively characters.  Today we started with the letter Pp.

We learned that when we make the Pp sound we use our lips and push out air like we are "puffing".

We brainstormed all the Pp words we could and then drew them!

On Tuesday...remember we have NO school on Monday...we will be learning about the letter Tt

Students are welcome to bring in small items that start with the letter Tt to help guide our work!

I like Myself

Today we read the story I like Myself.  We talked about how we are all special and unique!

We learned that we are all different, but we are the SAME too!
Look at how we see us as the SAME!
